Receiving and Shipping of Cattle

Protocols for transport of cattle from pastures to the barn are designed to minimize stress and the potential of injury.


Feed and Nutrition Management

Cattle are fed a nutritionally balanced finishing ration with a minimum of 80% corn for 100 days.

Receiving and Shipping of Cattle

Protocols for transport of cattle from pastures to the barn are designed to minimize stress and the potential of injury.


Feeding Environment

The feeding environment must provide appropriate conditions including the feed bunk, water supply and bedding materials.


Sanitation and Pest Control

Efforts are made to limit and control entry of pests into the barn area. Manure is stored for later use as nutrients for crops.


Biosecurity

Entrance into the barn is controlled, signage is posted and Visitor Log records are maintained.


Personnel Training

Required Ontario Cattle Feeders Association Quality Assurance Program training must be completed.


Facilities and Equipment

Written protocols for feeding equipment must address the maintenance routine, calibration schedule and cleaning procedures.


Animal Health

Sick animals must be properly identified and handled. Animal Treatment Records document medication use.
