Naturally Great Tasting Beef
Corn is what gives Ontario Corn Fed Beef its rich, full flavour. It is naturally high in energy and promotes higher levels of marbling than grass feeding alone. Canada’s feeding practices enable more than 85% of cattle raised for beef production to be harvested at 2 years of age or less. A younger age at slaughter enhances tenderness and overall eating quality. Our strict quality assurance program ensures that only beef with a grade of Canada AA or higher can qualify as OCFB product.
It takes time and effort to produce a consistently great tasting product. That effort has been made by all involved in the production of Ontario Corn Fed Beef and we are sure that you will appreciate the results.
Nutritionally Balanced
Cattle fed for the OCFB program are provided diets that are balanced for all nutrients to ensure the well being of the animals and to provide high levels of nutrients in the beef produced. Our beef products provide 14 essential nutrients and are an excellent source of protein, niacin, vitamin B12, selenium and zinc and are a good source of iron, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and phosphorus. The iron in beef is in a form called “heme” iron, which the body more readily absorbs than the iron found in plant foods (e.g. spinach, cereals, legumes) or eggs. Beef is also a source of magnesium, potassium and vitamin D..
Balanced Animal Nutrition
A balanced diet or ration is one that has all the required nutrients in the right proportions and amounts. To achieve this balance farmers often work with specialists known as animal nutritionists. Nutritionists understand how the time of harvest and different growing conditions can influence a plants nutrient content. The nutritionist will also consider the animals requirement for protein, energy, fiber as well as vitamins and minerals. The age, weight and gender of the animal are also important to consider in order to achieve balanced nutrition.
